The Butter Tart.
It's the most Canadian of treats, consisting of butter, sugar, syrup, and egg. But what makes it so delicious? Is it the gooey centre when you break your butter tart open? Or is the secret all in the flaky pastry?
If you're a butter tart aficionado who has what it tastes, you need to enter this contest. We're giving you and a friend the chance to win two coveted spots as judges at the 6th annual Butter Tart Tour Taste-Off.
The Kawarthas Northumberland Butter Tart Tour, the largest tour of its kind in Ontario, is a celebration of the iconic Canadian treat, offering fans the chance to sample the pastry at spots across the region. The Butter Tart Tour has grown to over 50 locations throughout Kawarthas Northumberland with a mix of bakeries, restaurants and inns all serving up their takes on the Canadian staple. This year's theme, Arts 'n Tarts, features bakers joining forces with artists and studios, with some creating specialty tarts inspired by local arts.
Once a year, the talented bakers of the Butter Tart Tour come together to sell their award-winning tarts and compete for the chance to take home top honours at the Butter Tart Tour Taste-Off. On September 23, they'll be hosting the 6th annual competition in Port Hope – and you could be on the panel of expert judges!
As if judging the perfect pastries wasn't enough, the lovely people at the Butter Tart Tour will also throw in a night at the historic Carlyle Hotel in Port Hope and free passes to Cultivate: A Festival of Food and Drink, a three-day culinary event celebrating local food, craft beer and live music.
