We love when two of our favourite things come together in a neat little package. So when we learned that food (our one, true love) and movies would be converging for the Toronto Food Film Fest, we knew we were in for a showstopper.
We're not just talking about buttery popcorn. Toronto's only multi-day food film festival will not only be showcasing independent films from around the world dedicated to food – the schedule also includes a number of curated eating experiences from fave Toronto eateries like The Depanneur.
Toronto Food Film Fest, taking place at Little Italy's Royal Cinema from October 4-5, 2019, will be screening more than 20 films over the course of two days, in addition to running a number of workshops and food events at participating bars and restaurants.
The opening night kicks off with Spanish movie 'A God in Each Lentil' by director Miguel Ángel Jiménez, which follows Chef Kiko Moya and his family on a gastronomic journey around Alicante. The feature will also be paired with the short film, 'A Visual Ode to a Hare in the Woods in 6 Acts', a visual journey inside Michelin Star chef Massimo Bottura’s most controversial dish by Italian director Andrea Marini.
But if you want your foodie-fill before you head to the flicks, you can catch one of the workshops taking place at partnered venues in the area. The Emmet Ray will be hosting a beer tasting event on Friday, October 4 with master craft brewers, the Peat Brothers. The whisky and jazz bar, which has over 250 whiskies, will also be leading a Scotch tasting on Saturday, October 5, walking guests through the different types and how to pair them with food.
The cherry on top? Toronto Food Film Fest will be working with Rethink Resource, Canada’s most environmentally-friendly waste management company, to ensure that waste is diverted and that fully-compostable serving containers are used throughout the festival. The festival will also be hosting the #WasteNot panel with industry names like Executive Chef John Morris of 360 The Restaurant at the CN Tower, who will be chatting about how they reduce their carbon footprint.
