This will take your lunch hour to the next level

Every Thursday and Friday, a DJ will be cranking out beats in the Union Food Court to take your lunch hour from lame to lit.

Oh the lunch hour. You get one every day but they all seem to blend together – it’s just a haze of dry sandwiches topped with bland cold cuts and mediocrity. Can you even remember what you had for lunch yesterday? Because we can’t.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s about time we reclaimed the lunch hour and made it into a little slice of heaven. It’s the one time a day when we can shirk our duties, throw off our professional personas and have a little fun.

“How?” you ask. Well it starts by getting out of that stuffy break room.

Every Thursday and Friday in the Union Food Court below the GO concourse, a live DJ will be turning out tunes to liven up your lunch hour.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. you can enjoy a free performance from upcoming artists while you chow down on a steaming bowl of tonkotsu ramen from Sansotei; pierogies piled high with double smoked bacon, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese and house made sauerkraut from Loaded Pierogi; spicy jerk chicken from Roywoods; or one of the many other options.

Bonus: the monthly resident DJ will be back from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for your evening commute or dinner dining.

Thursdays will showcase artists from the Remix Project, a programme that helps create equal opportunities for young people from disadvantaged, marginalized and under served communities. Meanwhile, Fridays will feature artists from Canada’s Music Incubator, a non-profit dedicated to developing creative entrepreneurship for emerging talent.

Not sure what to do for lunch? Head to the Union Food Court for a live DJ as part of Union Beats sponsored by TD Canada.
