With autumn’s crisp, cool air and the vibrant turning of leaves from green to fiery red, orange and yellow comes the bounty of our local harvests. One of the best ways to usher in the season is with The Foreign Affair Winery’s Harvest Kick-Off Celebration on Saturday, September 28 from 12 pm to 3 pm.

The Foreign Affair Winery’s Harvest Kick-Off Celebration is a family-friendly drop-in event made for lovers of good food and great wine. Located just 90 minutes from downtown Toronto, this event is an escape from the city and an opportunity to be immersed in the beauty of the Niagara Region as the seasons change. Arrive with an appetite as Guest Chef Christian Pritchard will be cooking up his famous Bolognese pasta and offering tastings of premium Italian olive oils at this celebration. You’ll find this hearty food experience pairs perfectly with Foreign Affair’s menu of feature wines by the glass.

In particular, we’d recommend the yet-to-be-released 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine, which scored 91 points from Wines in Niagara writer Rick VanSickle, is available for purchase exclusively to guests of the Harvest Kick-Off Celebration.

Like all Foreign Affair wines, the new 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is made using the Appassimento Italian winemaking method. After grapes have fully ripened, the best bunches are hand-harvested and naturally air-dried until their weight is reduced to approximately half, which can take between two to three months. The grapes are then hand-sorted and crushed. This process concentrates the ripe flavours and adds a full-bodied character Foreign Affair wines are well known for.

Alongside these tasty eats and sips, you can also feel good about your visit to The Foreign Affair Winery's Harvest Kick-Off Celebration as a portion of ticket sales go directly to the Niagara Migrant Workers Interest Group. This organization helps coordinate essential services for migrant workers which form the backbone of the wine and other agricultural industries in the Niagara Region.
