For the first event in our Flor de Caña and Foodism Mixtronomy dinner series, we held a rum-focussed feast at Sofia restaurant in Yorkville.

Twenty Foodism readers were invited to cozy up on the plush red couches and enjoy an intimate evening of rum tasting and fine dining in the swish setting. Each tipple centred on Flor de Caña’s award-winning rums and was paired perfectly with a bespoke menu from Sofia’s chef Rob LeClair.

To kick off the night, head bartender Nishan Nepulangoda greeted each guest with a welcome cocktail – the Flora e Fauna made with Flor de Caña 12 year.

After mingling on the patio, guests were seated to begin their deep dive into a four-course dinner and rum tasting. Warm burrata came with grilled peaches, pistachios and a honey saffron vinaigrette. Made with Flor de Caña 7 year, the ‘smoking volcano’ cocktails arrived on a platter, complete with smoke wafting over the table.

Next up: a ricotta and summer truffle gnocchi. Grilled Branzino paired with a Flor de Caña old fashioned made the main event, and a dark chocolate mousse with a Flor de Caña-infused zabaglione topped it all off.

Brand specialist Karen Moodie and brand ambassador Billy Killin spoke to guests about Flor de Caña, its history and the drinks being served.

As a take-home treat, guests each received a gift bag that included three bars of Green & Black’s chocolate. To create your own rum tasting at home, pair Flor de Caña 7 year with Green & Black’s burnt toffee dark chocolate, Flor de Caña 12 year with Green & Black’s milk chocolate and Flor de Caña 18 year with Green & Black’s 70 per cent dark chocolate.
