Make This: Lobby Bar's Black Forest Fizz

Now you can have your cake and drink it, too. (Sorry, we couldn't resist.) This bourbon-driven fizz is a sweet-and-sour riff on that coffeehouse classic, Black Forest cake. Hey, fizzes are traditional breakfast drinks - might as well try one with your French press...

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Old Forester Straight Bourbon
  • 0.5 oz cherry heering
  • 0.5 oz grapefruit juice
  • 0.25 oz simple syrup
  • 0.75 oz egg white
  • Bittered Sling Malagasy Chocolate Bitters
  • DRY vanilla soda

Method

In a shaker tin filled with ice, shake together all ingredients except soda. Strain, discard the ice and then pour back into the shaker for a second shake. This technique is called a reverse dry shake, and it's great for creating a really frothy cocktail. Pour the contents of the tin into a highball glass with enough DRY vanilla soda to top off the glass. Garnish with a rum-infused cherry.
