Make This: Carmen's Don Pepe Cocktail

Though originally from Spain, sherry is now is made all over the world. Building a cocktail around it is a great way to mix up a low-alcohol cocktail that still packs a punch. Here we have a classy cocktail from Queen West’s Carmen that should assist in knocking you off your feet and momentarily transporting you to Spain. Mixing a bit of olive juice and pintxo (for garnish), this cocktail is quick and easy-to-make and can easily become a go-to choice at home:

Ingredients 

Jamón Serrano and Olive Pintxo

  • 1 piece of jamón
  • 1 olive

Cocktail

  • 2 cups of Ice
  • 2 ounces of Tio Pepe (Sherry)
  • ½ ounce of lemon juice
  • ¼ ounce of lime juice
  • ¾ ounce of simple syrup
  • ¾ ounce of egg whites
  • Splash of olive juice
  • Jamón Serrano and olive pintxo, for garnish

Method

Fill coupe glass with ice and set aside. Add sherry, juices, syrup and egg whites in a cocktail shaker; shake well (10 sec). Add ice to the shaker and shake again! (20 sec). Remove ice from coupe glass. Spray glass with a bit of olive juice. Double strain the mixture into glass. Secure jamón and olive with a toothpick, place on top of the cocktail. Bottoms up!
