“Piña coladas were created in Puerto Rico in the 1950s and the name 'piña colada' is Spanish in origin, meaning 'strained pineapple.'" says Danielle Yoon, Owner, Drinksmith.
“The original cocktail called for heavy coconut cream – but nowadays a lighter version of the drink, using canned coconut milk, seems to have greater appeal.”
Ingredients

- ½ cup amber/gold or coconut rum
- ½ cup DOLE® Premium Pineapple Juice
- 1 oz orange liqueur
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 2 tsp sugar
- 2 cups ice
- Fresh mint for garnish
Method
Add all the ingredients (except the mint) and some ice into a blender. Blend the mixture on high speed until smooth and frothy. Pour into two glasses and garnish with fresh mint.
