A pint of rich, dark stout has become somewhat synonymous with celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, thanks to Guinness and its Irish heritage. But with all the excellent craft breweries we have in Ontario, there are plenty of local options for delicious stouts to sip on instead.

One of our favourites is MacLean’s Luck & Charm Oatmeal Stout. Made in Grey County, Ontario, Luck & Charm is a dry and smooth stout brewed with a dark roasted malt for a coffee-like aroma. You’ll taste that roasted flavour in the stout itself too, along with a bit of chocolate. It’s all balanced with a hint of bitterness from the hop, making this stout pretty satisfying to drink.

The brewery’s founder, Charles MacLean, was actually the first independent craft brewer in Ontario when he started up MacLean’s in 1993. So you know his recipes and brewing techniques have been honed over decades. But, don’t just take it from us. Luck & Charm took home a bronze prize from last year’s Canadian Brewing Awards in the "Oatmeal Stout" category, making this an award-winning brew that’s appropriately named for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.
