If culinary travel (and the occasional Netflix cooking show) has taught us anything, it's that there's a whole other world of food out there that extends well beyond the GTA. While Toronto might be pretty well represented when it comes to regional cuisines and cooking styles, there's nothing quite like eating phở in Vietnam or street-side tacos in Mexico City.
Enrique Olvera, generally considered to be Mexico’s best chef, will be heading to Toronto as part of The George Brown College Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts' In Conversation series. Known for his reinvention of traditional Mexican fare, the award-winning chef is the founder of Pujol and Eno in Mexico City; Criollo in Oaxaca; and Cosme and ATLA in New York City.
Moderated by Foodism’s own editor-at-large Suresh Doss, the discussion will delve into the tradition and techniques surrounding Mexico’s cuisine. Included with your ticket, you’ll receive a signed copy of Olvera’s second English cookbook, Tu Casa Mi Casa, where he outlines authentic Mexican recipes that are simple enough to make at home. After the discussion, stick around for a food and drink reception.
