The holidays and the end of the year are the perfect opportunity to reflect and celebrate with a bottle of something sparkling — but don't just pop anything. As with all of our usual wine consumption, we love to know that the product is delicious, the methods of production are solid and the story behind that glass is similarly appealing. GH Mumm, a champagne house founded in 1827 and based in Reims, France, is a trailblazer that you need to get to know this season.

Maison Mumm is known for its skill in selecting and blending the best terroirs in Champagne, and for letting the best qualities of the classic pinot noir grape sing in the glass. For more than 200 years, pinot noir has been Maison Mumm's signature grape, a perfect metaphor for the champagne house's singular and unique personality.

Their wine is known for its fresh intensity, generous fruit and elegant structure, which is achieved by resting bottles between two and five years in the cellars in Reims.

GH Mumm’s winemaking team primarily focuses on Grand and Premier Cru sites, ensuring the best vintages year after year. The champagne house's name has become synonymous with luxury, and the iconic red ribbon ("Cordon Rouge") on the label is now a symbol of quality.

Did you know..?

Champagne grape varieties

Champagne — which must be made in the Champagne region of France to be given this name — is a blended wine. Champagne is typically made from three varieties: chardonnay, pinot noir and meunier. These grape varieties were chosen because they offer a good balance of sweetness and acidity to complement the effervescence.

The result is a bold, rich wine that artfully balances the power and structure of pinot noir with the elegance and minerality of chardonnay and the fruitiness of meunier. A portion of the reserve wines in this cuvée are aged in oak vats, which brings even greater aromatic complexity to the final product.

Mumm Grand Cordon Brut is layered with flavour and popping with notes of citrus, apple and toasty vanilla. Delicately balanced, fresh and vibrant, it's a sophisticated champagne that works for milestones big and small.
