Sofia Restaurant: The Vibe

Some people head to Yorkville's bars and restaurants to see and be seen at some of the best eateries in the city, but others go for the quiet luxury that offers a reprieve from the urban rabble. Recessed from street level and hidden away from the prying eyes of passersby, Sofia Restaurant's secluded terrace is easily one of the best patios in Toronto, and a romantic setting for tucking into pasta and seafood from one of the city's best Italian restaurants.

Rich blue couches offer the comfort of sitting indoors, while large plants and white umbrellas remind us that we're outside soaking up the last of the summer in pure bliss. Flanked by art, the shady patio is a gorgeous spot for a cheeky long lunch or an afternoon date.

Sofia Restaurant: The menu

The lunch menu is stacked with stellar options. Jumbo, juicy shrimp and a slightly spicy Bomba Cocktail Sauce makes for a succulent starter, while creamy burrata gets its sweet and tart flavour from grilled fig and aged balsamic.

A surprisingly light dish, gargenelli in a rich, flavourful wild boar bolognese is an easy plate of pasta to enjoy on a warm day — and for leftovers the next day. I can barely stop myself from eating every last bite of the rigatoni alla vodka, despite feeling like I'm about to burst. It might be a simpler pasta dish, but it shines with a creamy, spicy sauce; perfectly chewy noodles; and fresh flavours.

Tiramisu often comes cut out of a pan — and tasting like it — but Sofia Restaurant's iteration is the farthest thing from that. Espresso gelato and creamy mascarpone add layers to this light and fluffy dessert.

Sofia Restaurant: The drink menu

After a few celebrity endorsements, the Hugo Spritz quickly became the drink of the summer, and I'm here for it. Sofia Restaurant's version, the Hugo Italiano is dry and refreshing with the addition of Limoncello, lime and yuzu soda to the floral, St-Germain-based cocktail.

Other tipples lean on the boozier side, like the Calabrese Spring with grapefruit notes and a kick from jalapeño black pepper syrup.

The wine list is exceptionally long, if that's more your speed.
