There’s a time and a place for sipping spirits solo — and we don’t think it’s in those hazy, lazy summer months when sunshine demands us to sit outside and savour our drinks. This year, we’ll be celebrating National Cognac Day by enjoying Courvoisier in refreshing cocktails long after the sun has gone down, thank you very much.
Courvoisier has been crafting cognac since 1835, so they know a thing or two about making a smooth spirit. While it's considered one of the “big four” cognac houses, Courvoisier certainly likes to do things their own way.
Cognac is a brandy made using grapes grown in six legally recognized areas in the Cognac region of France — and Courvoisier squeezes the potential out of every ingredient, so you can taste each step of the process in your glass. Grapes are harvested at their peak, in summer, before fermenting the grape juices, distilling the pure gold liquid (or “eau-de-vie”) and aging for a superior taste.
Not afraid to experiment, Courvoisier launched the brand's first mixable spirit in the 1930s: a lighter, fruitier and more aromatic cognac called Gala. The Courvoisier Gala cocktail takes inspiration from this spirit steeped in history — while leaving plenty of room to play with modern takes. The Courvoisier Gala combines Courvoisier VS with a citrus soda in a highball glass, with a wheel of lemon providing the finishing touch. The bubbles add life and movement to the cognac, creating a sessionable cocktail that’s light, refreshing and just perfect for brunch with friends, or as a sundowner at the cottage this summer.
The Courvoisier French Twist draws inspiration from the historic daisy cocktail, created by legendary bartender Jerry Thomas in 1867. Following the same style, this summery tipple combines Courvoisier VSOP, triple sec, simple syrup or honey and fresh lemon juice, topped with soda water. The carbonated cocktail is France in a glass, tying together the unique cocktail culture of the era and the legend of Maison Courvoisier, the House of Cognac built in 1857 — and every bit as refreshing when enjoyed in 2022.
Both cocktails are simple to make, giving you more time to enjoy summer — and Courvoisier — with friends and family during the best time of the year.
