The Rec Room's Tofu Bowl

The Rec Room is all about indoor fun and turns out they make vegetables fun too with this tofu bowl packed with green goodness that tastes as good as it looks. 

Elevate your bowl game with deep-fried tofu, fried rice, fresh veggies and all the flavour that'll put store-bought salads to shame. 

Ingredients

  • 1 oz edamame
  • 1 ½ oz green beans, bias cut, blanched
  • ¾ oz pickled red onion
  • 1 oz chili pickled carrots
  • Pinch scallion curls
  • 1 soy ginger tofu block, cut into 3 pieces
  • 1 tsp sesame oil/soy sauce
  • 10 oz fried rice
  • ¼ oz shaved radish
  • Pinch cilantro leaves
  • 2 oz corn starch
  • ½ oz vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp of sesame seeds

Method

  1. Dredge 3 pieces of tofu in cornstarch, ensuring an even coating.
  2. Pan fry tofu in canola oil for 2 minutes each side, until golden brown and heated through.
  3. In a sauté pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add fried rice portion and heat, stirring constantly for 45 seconds.
  4. Blanche green beans in salted boiling water for 60 seconds.
  5. Place hot rice in the centre of a bowl.
  6. Fan 3 pieces of tofu clockwise around bowl followed by pickled carrots, green beans, scallion curls, pickled onion, edamame and shaved radish.
  7. Garnish with cilantro and sesame seed and drizzle of sesame/soy.
