We've been obsessed with finding the perfect martini for a while now, and for good reason: The ice-cold icon is one of the world’s most versatile and recognizable tipples. However, we're ready to graduate to something new, and with the help of one of Bangkok's best bartenders, we think we've found it.
The vesper cocktail is a spin on the classic martini, which uses gin, vodka and Lillet Blanc, shaken, not stirred, and garnished with a lemon peel. It was made famous by author Ian Fleming in his 1953 novel Casino Royale, and offers a well-balanced cocktail with a slight sweetness from the French aperitif.
And who better to share a recipe than Tom Hearn, the bar manager at Vesper Bar, an award-winning cocktail den in Bangkok? On May 1 and 2, Vesper will be making its first-ever Canadian appearance, with Hearn (formerly of London’s American Bar at The Savoy) shaking things up behind the bar and bringing Bangkok’s iconic craft cocktail scene to Toronto.

Flora Lounge at 1 Hotel Toronto will welcome Vesper Bar, one of Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2024 (No.13), and No. 85 on The World’s 50 Best Bars, for a two-night guest shift. This marks the second installment of Flora’s Guest Shift series: In 2024, it hosted a highly successful two-night event with Hope & Sesame, one of Asia’s 50 Best Bars from Guangzhou.

While there, you can also try other Vesper Bar cocktails from the menu that's known for its "serious cocktails minus the pretentiousness." From Guilty Affogato to White Matcha Negroni, each cocktail is as visually striking as it is delicious. And don't rush off — Flora Lounge, 1 Hotel Toronto's stunning lobby bar, is just as picturesque as the drinks.

Whether you're enjoying it from the maestro himself or shaking it up at home, we promise that the vesper is set to become your newest drink obsession.
Flora's Guest Shift series takes place on May 1–2, from 7–10 p.m. in the Flora Lounge at 1 Hotel Toronto. No reservations, walk-ins only
