What's the deal
Like so many restaurants, Antler had to PIVOT (Ross from Friends, anyone?) their regular dine-in service to solely delivery and pickup. While the switch is a big move, Antler has always prided itself on being different, so we have a feeling they're up for the challenge.
In the middle of a busy, urban city, Antler has stayed true to its rural roots with a menu featuring nontraditional meat like venison, wild boar and that two-hander game burger (a patty of wild boar, bison and deer topped with duck egg aioli and smoked cheddar). They also incorporate foraged ingredients into their food and cocktails. We may have to stay home, but Antler brings the great Canadian outdoors to our table.
What to order
If you were to tell us that 2020 would be the year we would get charcuterie delivered to our door – we wouldn't ask any questions, that sounds like a great idea. The charcuterie at Antler is perhaps the city's most unique plate of assorted meat and cheese – it is an absolute must and a great introduction to the variety of game meat Antler specializes in.
The venison bresaola is thinly sliced and perfectly cured with salt and maple syrup. The duck parfait spreads like smooth whipped butter over their house made sourdough and the venison chorizo are crumbly bits of salty goodness with a hint of spice. Also, when else are you going to get a nine year old cheddar from the maritimes? (Our kind of babysitting.)
Mains like the ricotta (house made) cavatelli with boar ragu and the dry aged bison rib eye travel well and are just as good as they are at the restaurant. There's also a wild mushroom risotto for our vegetarian friends. The piece de resistance is the game boxes which have marinated and ready-to-cook bison steaks, boar racks, duck breasts and whole cornish hens to up your home cooking game – literally.
How to get it
Antler is available for delivery on Door Dash and Uber Eats. Or you can place an order directly through their website and schedule a pickup time at the restaurant (pro tip: you save some cash this way and more money goes directly to the restaurant).
Dinner for two: around $80, but also choose your own adventure.
