ICYMI (that’s “in case you missed it” in internet speak), orange is the new craft beer when it comes to on-trend bevvies. Blame Beppi: rumour has it Southbrook’s 2015 Small Lot Orange Wine is flying off the shelves after getting the nod from the Globe and Mail’s wine and spirits expert last week.
If you like your wines fruit-forward and uncomplicated, you can sit this one out. Southbrook’s orange wine is earthy and funky, and even though it’s made with vidal—the grape you probably know best from ice wine—there’s nothing sweet about it. It’s refreshing, served chilled and laced with great acidity, but it also has a little oomph from the tannin and sediment. Exactly the kind of wine you want to take outside for those last defiant autumn nights on the patio.
