4 El Dorado Demerara Rum cocktails that are perfect for summer

Shake up something different this summer with El Dorado Demerara Rum, Guyana's legendary smooth rum.

Not to sound dramatic, but these days, things seem to move too fast. From dinner delivered to your door in under 20 minutes to new restaurants opening and closing in less than a year. Sometimes, we just want to slow it down and savour moments instead of having them pass us by. El Dorado Demerara Rum knows a thing or two about slowing it down, and the magic that happens when you take your time.

Their 300 years of rum-making passion and wisdom is unlike any other. Created on the banks of the Demerara River in Guyana, the mix of time and tropical temperatures help shape these smooth and complex Caribbean rums into deeply flavourful expressions.

To capture every ounce of their rich distilling history, El Dorado uses their original heritage stills and distilling equipment from the 18th and 19th centuries. Their two wooden pot stills are the last of their kind, and the only working ones to this day. The rum used from these historical stills imparts a distinct, rich characteristic to their blends.

Their oak-barrel-aged rums range between three to 50 years old, and come in a variety of collections from blended beauties to single still rums. While each has its own distinctive character, what they all have in common is a mellow smoothness that you'll want to soak up all summer long.

Unlike other rum producers, the age on El Dorado bottles represent the youngest rum in the blend — one of the many ways this iconic rum dares to be different. After all, El Dorado was the first aged rum available at the LCBO, and it continues to be recognized as a category leader today, especially in the sustainability sector.

Taking inspiration from Guyana's carbon neutral commitments, El Dorado's bio-methane plant converts liquid waste from the distilling process into energy to power their distillery. While El Dorado is shaking up the industry, you can shake up something different this summer with their delicious cocktail recipes below. Just make sure you take the time to enjoy — life's better that way.
